Pokemon Day 2026 - 30th Anniversary Year

Everything Pokemon Fans Need To Know

This Friday, 27th February 2026, marks a huge milestone for fans worldwide: Pokémon Day 2026, the 30th anniversary of Pokémon.

Originally launched in 1996 in Japan, the franchise has grown into a global powerhouse spanning video games, anime, numerous collaborations, and of course, the ever-booming Pokémon TCG.

For Pokemon collectors across the world, milestone anniversaries often mean one thing: special releases, nostalgic throwbacks, and brand new Anniversary TCG products. Here’s what we know so far, and why this year’s Pokémon Day matters for collectors.

Pokémon Presents 2026: TCG Announcements & Collector Speculation

The annual Pokémon Presents showcase Livestream is expected to reveal updates across games and potentially the Pokémon TCG release calendar. While details remain cautious, anniversary years traditionally bring: Special promotional Pokémon cards, Limited edition products, Unique artwork from high-profile illustrators and Commemorative Pokémon TCG sets.

The show case begins at 6:00 a.m. PST / 2:00 p.m. GMT / 3:00 p.m. CET on Feb. 27, 2026, on the official Pokémon YouTube and Twitch channels. Tune in to find out what you can expect out of Pokémon this year!

The Return of Kanto: FireRed & LeafGreen on Modern Platforms

One of the biggest headlines surrounding Pokémon Day 2026 is the reported return of Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen. These beloved remakes of the original Kanto adventures on Gameboy are expected to arrive on modern platforms, giving both new and veteran Trainers the chance to revisit Pallet Town and capture the original 151 Pokémon.

From a Pokémon TCG perspective, Kanto nostalgia often drives increased demand for Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur and Pikachu cards, especially alternate arts and Special Illustration Rares. Historically, anniversary cycles create renewed interest in Gen 1 Pokémon cards, something collectors will want to watch closely.

LEGO Collaboration & What It Means for Pokémon Collectors

This is Pokémon’s first ever Collaboration with LEGO and will be debuting on February 27th for fans of both franchises to purchase. The first three sets see five fan-favorite Pokémon: Pikachu, Eevee, Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise, recreated in LEGO brick form.

This collaboration between The Pokémon Company and LEGO signals another expansion of the Pokémon brand. Cross-brand partnerships historically increase brand visibility, often feeding back into demand for Pokémon cards and sealed TCG products.
